This ask totally made our day.
We tend to prefer sangrias with red wine, but that’s really more of a personal preference than anything else.
First important question - how easy would it be for you to get fresh fruit? A really good sangria has orange, lime and lemons in it, so the more organic/fresher you can those, the better.
The second important - does your sister like dry white wine or sweet white wine? We tend to like things on the dry side (like our sense of humor…) so we would recommend a Sauvignon Blanc or even a Pinot Grigio. If you like the sweeter stuff, a Chardonnay or even Riesling (which is extra sweet) would be the wines to look for.
You also need ginger ale or club soda - again this depends on whether you like the sweeter stuff or the slightly more bitter. We tend to prefer club soda, but if you like sweet white wine, you’ll probably want to go with ginger ale.
With that out of the way, a Sangria à la Occam’s Razor:
1 bottle of white wine (Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, whatever)
1/3 cup of sugar
1 lemon, cut into slices
1 lime, cut into slices
1/2 l of either ginger ale or club soda
1 shot of gin
a handful of kiwis or strawberries if they’re in season/easy to get
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the orange, lemon and lime into the wine, add shot of gin. Toss in the fruit (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.
Depending on the weather outside, you can also add ice cubes into the pitcher. :)
Please drink in moderation. Drinking and driving is bad.
